Christal Burnette joined the master's program at the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of the Ryukyus in 2016. She specialized in subtropical plants, with a particular focus on the rare plant Chomeisou (Peucedanum japonicum). She came to Okinawa to learn why it is called the "Island of Longevity," but she didn't expect to discover her own journey towards a longer, healthier life.

Haitai was created to share the secrets of longevity with others. As Christal works towards becoming an expert in Okinawan health, she documents everything she learns and everyone she meets. Here's a hint: the secrets to longevity are not as complex or expensive as you might think. Christal is fluent in both English and Japanese and speaks a bit of the endangered Okinawan dialect. With her deep understanding of Okinawan culture and extensive network, the islanders are always eager to share their knowledge with her.
